At Summer St Films, we’re a small team of 4 photographers and filmmakers working closely together, often blending roles throughout the day. There isn’t a fixed division between “photo” and “video” — just a shared sensitivity to what’s unfolding, and a mutual understanding of when to step in and when to stay back.

What matters to us isn’t coverage in the traditional sense. It’s attention.

Most weddings today are photographed beautifully. But beauty alone tends to flatten things — it prioritizes how a moment looks over what it actually felt like to be there. Over time, those images can start to feel interchangeable.

We’re more interested in the opposite.

Our approach is rooted in a cinematic documentary mindset — not in the sense of heavy movement or stylization, but in how we observe. We pay attention to pacing, to distance, to the in-between moments that usually go unnoticed. The way a room settles before something begins. The way people move when they’re not being directed. The fragments that don’t announce themselves as “important,” but become everything later.

We don’t treat the day as a sequence of shots to complete. We follow it as it unfolds.

There are moments where we’ll guide — lightly, when needed — especially during portraits. But even then, we’re not trying to manufacture something that isn’t already there. The goal is never to turn the day into a photoshoot. It’s to let it remain a lived experience, and to photograph from within that.

We’re also attentive to how images sit together as a body of work. Not just individual frames, but the rhythm of a gallery — how quiet moments hold space next to louder ones, how details and people and atmosphere build a sense of place. The result isn’t meant to feel like a highlight reel. It should feel closer to memory.

Something you return to, rather than something you scroll past.

Because years from now, what lasts isn’t just how everything looked.

It’s whether it still feels like you were there.
